Your Best Thinking Got You Here

Picture
I’ve learned that battles in life are rarely about circumstances alone. They’re about how we think about those circumstances. Scripture makes this plain in 2 Corinthians 10:3–5: “Though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.”

Strongholds aren’t just bad habits or sinful behaviors; they’re entrenched ways of thinking. Old arguments that once seemed right. Lofty opinions that make us feel wise. Patterns of thought that come so naturally, we forget to question them. Until those thoughts are torn down and brought captive to Christ, nothing really changes.

That explains why so many of us repeat the same cycles. We change jobs, change relationships, make new resolutions, yet still find ourselves at the same dead ends. The reason is simple: we never let God change the way we think. Proverbs 23:7 reminds us, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.”

The good news is this: God hasn’t left us without weapons. His Word is described as the “sword of the Spirit,” the only weapon sharp enough to slice through false arguments and demolish mental fortresses. Real transformation begins when we stop reaching for fleshly weapons — anger, control, people-pleasing, self-reliance — and instead take up God’s truth.

So if you find yourself saying, “Why am I here again?” take courage. You are where your best thinking has gotten you. You do not have to stay there. Ask God to renew your mind, to wash your thoughts with His Word, and to show you the strongholds He wants to bring down. Nothing — truly nothing — will be different until you think differently.
