Stronger Than Closure

Picture
There was a young man I poured into for years. Let’s call him Collin. It was never easy — the conversations were strained, the walls were high, and God was rarely a topic he wanted to touch. Still, I stayed. I prayed. I showed up. Love endures even when there’s little return.

Then one day, Collin walked away without explanation…and I let him. No words, no closure. Just silence. That kind of departure leaves a mark. It raises questions you can’t answer and leaves echoes you don’t want. Over time I’ve learned that someone else’s silence doesn’t define me, and it doesn’t define the work of God.

What looked like abandonment became training ground. It taught me endurance. It taught me to hold the high ground — to trust that vindication and reconciliation, if they ever come, belong to the Lord. It also taught me that love doesn’t collapse just because it isn’t returned. Love is strongest when it is given without conditions.

I don’t know where Collin’s story will end, yet I know where mine stands. My faith is not in people who leave or stay, but in the God who never abandons. The silence of one man has only made me listen more closely for the voice of the One who is always near. In that I’ve found something stronger than closure: peace.
