Giving the Burden Once

We all know what it feels like to carry something too heavy — a grief, a worry, a relationship, or a disappointment that weighs on the heart. Scripture tells us clearly what to do with those loads: “Cast all your care on Him, because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).

That word “cast” is important. It doesn’t mean to toss it back and forth like a ball, handing it to God one minute and yanking it back the next. It means to place it on Him decisively. A once-for-all transfer. When I hand the burden to the Lord, it is no longer mine to carry.

Of course, the feelings and thoughts may still come. The ache may resurface like an echo in my mind. That doesn’t mean I failed to give it up. It simply means I need to remind myself: “I already gave this to the Lord. He has it.” My job is not to keep re-surrendering in fear, but to trust the moment of surrender already made.

This is freeing. It breaks the exhausting cycle of picking the load back up every time I feel it. Faith says, “The case is already in God’s hands.” His care is constant, His strength is unchanging, and His promise is sure.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You that You care for me enough to carry what I cannot. I place this burden in Your hands and refuse to take it back. When the weight presses on me again, remind me that You already have it. Help me to walk light, free, and trusting in Your care. Amen.
