A Life Full of Mistakes, Without Regret

Picture
If you live long enough, you’ll have a trail of mistakes behind you. Wrong turns. Rash decisions. Words you wish you hadn’t said. Times you trusted the wrong person, or failed the right one. Those moments leave marks — but they don’t have to leave regret.

The difference is this: regret looks back and refuses to release. Faith looks back and sees the hand of God, even in the wreckage. Scripture doesn’t hide human failure. Abraham lied. Moses struck the rock. David fell into sin. Peter denied Christ. Yet in each case, God wove redemption out of failure. Mistakes didn’t erase their destiny — they became part of the testimony.

Paul writes in Romans 8:28 that “all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” All things includes my mistakes. That doesn’t excuse them, but it does redeem them. If I believe that God is sovereign, then I can’t believe my errors are somehow stronger than His grace.

So I choose this posture: I may live with the consequences of mistakes, but I will not live shackled by regret. Regret keeps me chained to the past. Grace teaches me to stand, to learn, and to move forward with hope. A life full of mistakes? Yes. A life without regret? Absolutely. Because every scar, every stumble, every wrong turn can point me back to the faithfulness of the One who never failed me.
